Sadly this is true and sometimes the pressure of the university, getting a promotion or your professor's recommendation or the combination of any of these forces these "scientists" to fabricate data.
ReplyDeleteI think, if only these professors/students/scientists are into what science is defined, then there is no need to fabricate data.
ReplyDeleteI mean, the requirements should be there..but that does not mean that we bypass methods.
Some people fabricate data just because they feel the need to be bigger than they really are, the absolutely must have some amazing hypothesis work out. I was working as a research associate for someone like that. I had to quit because she was trying to get her fabricated data into my manuscript. The sad part is: if she would have just stayed out of the way and let me work, we would have had an awesome research project.
